Valdosta Police say an officer was driving east on Janet Street when an 11 year old boy rode his bike out in front of the him and the officer struck the boy.

Authorities say the officer immediately got out and assisted the boy, who was not wearing a safety helmet.

We're told the child was taken to South Georgia Medical Center for treatment and was released.

"Anytime a child's involved in anything and the child comes out okay, we certainly breathe a sigh of relief," said Valdosta Police Lt. Bobbie McGraw.

The accident is under investigation and no charges have been filed at this time.

Valdosta Police urge all bikers to please wear a safety helmet at all times while riding a bike.
