A new survey says fewer hospitals are sending new moms home with free formula. Something supporters say undermines efforts to encourage breast-feeding and violates medical guidelines.

But, even though more hospitals have stopped the giving away free formula, the majority still engage in the practice.

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends exclusively breast-feeding babies for their first six months.

The study is published online in the journal "Pediatrics."
