Researchers used data from four studies involving more than 140,000 women. The report states Human PapillomaVirus (HPV) testing is more sensitive, but, less specific than the pap test .
Results show HPV testing on its own yields too many false positives. This could result in unnecessary medical costs and anxiety for many women.
Findings appear in the 'Annals of Internal Medicine.'
