In today's health matters, an Ohio law requiring schools to measure a child's height and weight is not seeing full participation.

Many say they just can't afford it, while others look to their communities for funding. School officials say it's an unfunded mandate.

They say with about 3,500 students in the district and six staff and all the other mandates, it's very difficult to accomplish that task.

And they recognize there can also be other barriers. They say there are also issues about it being the school's responsibility to be monitoring those kinds of healthcare needs in children.

But public health officials argue that the data could be invaluable. So despite yet another year of cuts, the health department is keeping the program going in schools by making it a community effort.
