People with diabetes who sleep poorly have higher blood glucose levels and a more difficult time controlling their disease.
Researchers compared 40 people with Type 2 diabetes to more than 500 without it.
They looked at links between sleep quality, blood glucose levels and other measures of diabetes control.
Those with diabetes who had poor sleep quality had harder times controlling their blood glucose levels.
No relationship between glucose levels and sleep was seen in those without the disease.
Findings appear in the journal "Diabetes Care."
