In today's Health Matters, Scientists find a new link between obesity and insulin resistance. Obesity is one of the main factors behind the rise in type 2 diabetes.
Now scientists at the Joslin Diabetes Center believe they figured out how obesity affects a rise in insulin resistance. Researchers say being obese alters the production of proteins that affect how fat is stored in the liver. That excess fat is a known contributor for insulin resistance, which can lead to type 2 diabetes.
Study authors hope their findings ultimately point towards new targets for diabetes drugs. Findings appear in the journal 'cell metabolism.'
