Spanish researchers discover Viagra lessens the effect of Multiple Sclerosis in animals.
Scientists studied the effects of a treatment using Sildenafil, sold as Viagra, in mice with the disease.
They demonstrated a daily treatment quickly reduced clinical signs with practically a complete recovery in half the cases after eight days.
Multiple Sclerosis is the most common chronic inflammatory disease of the central nervous system, and one of the main causes of disability among young adults.
There is no cure, though some drugs have proven effective in preventing the disease from progressing.
Researchers are confident clinical trials will start soon because this drug is already used to treat sexual dysfunction in some MS patients.
