The bacteria that live in your gut can be used to put you into one of three groups in the human race.
European researchers determined three distinct types of microscopic ecosystems that exist in the human intestine.
Study authors say the findings are important because those bacteria can play a big role in how the body digests both food and medicine.
The research conducted by an international consortium called Metahit doesn't show how the groupings work.
Study authors hope the discovery may open a new door to diet advice and drug therapies tailored to individuals.
Findings appear in the journal "Nature."
