July 27, 2011 --
This isn't something to smile about.
A study released last week says nearly 34-million Americans aren't getting proper dental care.
The report from the Institute of Medicine and the National Research Council also says 62-percent of retirees didn't have dental insurance in 2006.
It finds that millions of children and older people don't get dental checks because they cannot afford it.
Having bad teeth can cause numerous health problems.
Officials say poor oral health can lead to heart disease, diabetes and respiratory illness.
