Surgeons at the University of Colorado Hospital are now able to replace a heart valve without open heart surgery. It works by using a catheter that runs through a tiny rib cage incision, goes through the tip of the heart, inside the artery that needs fixing. A tiny balloon then expands, allowing the surgeon to install a new valve.
Recovery time is also much less - at three to four days instead of three to four *weeks*.
