When the weather cools down in Valdosta, that means Blazer Basketball is heating up. If both teams live up to the preseason expectations, this basketball season at VSU should be scortching. While the men have been picked to win the Gulf South Conference, the women were picked to with the East division, making both Blazer teams a force to be reconned with in Division Two.
VSU Men's Head Basketball Coach Mike Helfer adds,
"You know I think preseason polls, predicition, expectations are really based on did you have a good year last year, who do you have coming back and did you sign any good recruits."
VSU Women's Head Basketball Coach Kiley Hill says,
"It speaks highly of our program, highly of our kids, and our work ethic. For me the strong point is now hwere you start it's where you finish."
Last season both teams earned a trip to the NCAA playoffs. The men return seven senioirs while the women will rely on youthful leaders to continue the wining tradition.
VSU Freshman Guard Alli Jones adds,
"I think it's good because we have the seniors and they're kind of like our roll models, tell us what to do, then like for me, there's also a lot of sophomore, a lot of young players that are trying to learn with me so I'm not the only one trying to get everything at one time"
Mike Helfer adds,
"Most of them stayed here this summer to work together, play together, be together and those are good signs as you go into a new season."
Blazer basketball gets underway November 15th when the women take on Lander at the P.E. Complex.
