UNC claims preseason honors in ACC

GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) -- North Carolina is once again the
preseason pick as the top women's basketball team in the Atlantic
Coast Conference.
For the second straight year, the Tar Heels were chosen to win
the league in voting announced Monday during the league's Operation
Basketball media day.
Coach Sylvia Hatchell's team received 30 of 45 first-place votes
from a panel of media members and school representatives. Duke was
picked second with 10 first-place votes.
The Blue Devils were followed by Florida State, Virginia,
defending tournament champion Maryland, Boston College, Georgia
Tech, Miami, North Carolina State, Wake Forest, Clemson and
Virginia Tech.
Virginia guard Monica Wright is the preseason player of the
year, and North Carolina guard Tierra Ruffin-Pratt is the top
rookie.
