TAMPA, Fla. – Despite five shots on goal, Valdosta State fell to Barry Sunday in a 3-0 loss. The loss drops VSU to 4-2 on the season as Barry moves to 3-3.
Goalkeeper Olivia Mills made four saves in the game as she faced seven shots on goal. Barry held just a one-shot advantage on the Blazers, 13-12, in the match.
Lauren Hale, Hannah Mulkey, Emily Cooper and Abbi Edwards all took two shots. Lizzie Lohmar, Sydney Smith, Sarah Knight and Kayla Reid each registered one shot. Hale, Knight, Edwards and Mulkey all placed shots on goal with Mulkey leading the way with two.
In the first half, Barry took nine shots to VSU’s six, but in the second half, Valdosta State held the 6-4 advantage in shots.
Scoring didn’t come until the 28th minute when Barry’s Laura Rockel scored from six yards out. Barry would hold the 1-0 advantage throughout the first half and into the second half.
Sarah Wolfer would scored the second and third goals for Barry in the 72nd and 82nd minute. Emma Karp crossed and Wolfer finished from 12 yards out. On the final goal, Wolfer finished on a breakaway.
The Blazers will take on conference foe Christian Brothers back at home at the VSU Soccer Complex at 2 p.m. Friday.
