Savannah, GA - Valdosta State proved its 3-2 win over Armstrong Atlantic in September was no fluke with a 3-0 domination of the Pirates Wednesday night. The win (25-12, 25-17, 25-21) moves Valdosta State to 14-5 on the season and extends the team’s winning streak to seven.
The Blazers hit an outstanding .448 attacking percentage for the match with just nine errors on the night. Valdosta State hit a high of .485 in the third set and a low of .375 in the second set and tallied a whopping 19 kills in the final frame.
Irene Hannan led the team with 12 kills and just one error for a .524 attacking percentage. Defending Gulf South Conference East Player of the Week Ruthie King hit for 10 kills on a .444 attacking percentage and racked up eight digs. Emelia Saulter and Chelsea Luttfring also had eight digs in the match.
Saulter passed out 23 assists while Hope Ripsam dished out 15. Arielle Parnell hit a .538 to lead all hitters with more than three attacks. Valdosta State put up six service aces to just one for the Pirates with King and Ripsam tallying two each.
Armstrong Atlantic could not get much going, starting the match with a .061 attacking percentage on just seven kills to five errors in the first set.
Jessica Santaniello and Amanda Jones led the team in kills with 10 each while Megan Pando passed out 18 assists. Natalie Edgeworth gave 11. Casey Howett led the team in digs with 12.
The Blazers have full momentum heading into their next GSC match with West Georgia at 11:30 a.m. Friday at the Complex. They will also play at 7 p.m. against Sunshine State Conference foe Rollins and follow it up with matches against Nova Southeastern and Eckerd on Saturday.
