Valdosta, GA - Valdosta State tamed the Lions of North Alabama, 2-0, Friday. With the win, Valdosta State moves to 34-8 on the season and 19-7 in Gulf South Conference play. North Alabama drops to 15-24 and 10-13.
Holly Satterfield struck out five on her way to her 20th victory of the season. She only gave up three hits and one walk in seven innings pitched to earn her 30th career shutout, tying the VSU all-time record for shutouts.
Six Blazers notched a hit in the game against UNA while Jordan Martin and April Hutchens picked up the two RBI.
Morgan Johnson started the second inning with a double. After Martin was hit by a pitch, Hutchens singled up the middle. Johnson legged out the first run of the game from second base to score.
The second run in the defensive battle did not come until the sixth inning. Martin hit her first home run of the season, a solo shot over the left field fence.
Valdosta State may have to play one more game this season in an “if necessary” game against West Alabama at noon Monday. But the next game VSU will play is at 6 p.m. Friday against VSU Football at the first annual Blazer Softball Showdown.
