As the Florida State Seminoles watched their name pop onto teh screen during last night's telecast of the NCAA tournament selection show, they knew it was time to go to work again.
Head Coach Leonard Hamilton said, "The past is behind us now. We have to be at our very best. We have to have the mindset that all teams are very, very good. It's time to take that next step and go to the NCAA tournament and be successful in it."
Last year the Noles added their first NCAA tournament banner in Leonard Hamilton's tenure at Florida State. This year, they're solidifying even more that FSU is not just a football school.
Hamilton said, "I feel like we're moving in the right direction but by no means have we reached our potential. I think we still have a lot of room for growth. We're getting better each year. We're moving our program forward, but we want to be considered one of those upper echelon teams, year in and year out. That's our goal."
They're striving for that goal one game at a time, beginning with Gonzaga in the opening round, a team that's already earned the respect the Garnet and Gold are still working for.
He says of the Zags, "They fall into the category of all the many other teams there that are great basketball teams, and in order to be successful against them, you have to go out and be at your very, very best."
