TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) - Florida State University President John Thrasher has tweeted a response to an online petition circulating around that is calling for the renaming of Doak Campbell Stadium, where the Seminoles play home football games.

Thrasher’s full statement can be seen below.

The petition, started by former Florida State player Kendrick Scott, has garnered over 2,100 signatures as of 4:10 p.m. on Monday.

Scott says Campbell’s “inclusive views of blacks as an segregationist is divisive, therefore his name should be removed from a stadium that has been home to many Black football players helping to build the school and the tradition to what it has become today: a national treasure.”

He also suggests re-naming the stadium after two-time national champion head coach Bobby Bowden, who the field is currently named after, and re-name the field after former Seminole football and basketball standout Charlie Ward.
