TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) - The Florida High School Athletic Association task force met on Tuesday and decided to keep the July 27 start date for fall sports.

Football was the primary focus. Some schools from the Miami area fear they might not start play until the end of September, which could put them at risk for breach of contract with certain games.

Another issue; the FHSAA requires you play 10 games to qualify for the state tournament.

”Certainly we are going to work with you if you cannot play games until Sept. 15,” FHSAA executive director George Tomyn said during the meeting. “We are not going to hold your feet to the fire like we use to or like we can if you have a contract with another school.”

The task force also agreed to send out a survey to the schools to get feedback on where they stand on summer workouts; the goal is to evaluate if alternative plans need to be made for fall sports.
