TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) - Wednesday, Governor Ron DeSantis announced a new educational initiative.

He proposed a $106 million dollars for civic literacy and civic education efforts in the state,

That money would go towards things like boosting civic curriculum courses, training seminars for teachers and principals and a “civic seal of excellence” for schools.

The governor wants Florida to lead the nation in civic education, with education based on the basics.. and getting politization out of education.

“Let me be clear. There is no room in our classrooms for things like critical race theory. Teaching kids to hate their country and to hate each other is not worth one red cent of taxpayer money,” DeSantis said at the Wednesday press conference.

Teachers completing the civic courses would receive a $3,000 bonus to bring lessons back to their schools.

The governor is also proposing that all graduating high school seniors would take a “citizenship” test, similar to those taken immigrants entering the U.S.
