TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) - As an Associate Athletic Director at Florida State in the late-90s to the mid-2000s, Kim Record had a front row seat to the foundations of Florida State basketball.

“To be in the ACC, Florida State was not in the top at all, neither programs, and so both Leonard and Sue have taken those programs and created sustained success,” Record said via Zoom on Thursday.

But on Saturday, Record will find herself on the opposite sideline, as for the last 12 years she’s served as Athletic Director at UNC Greensboro.

And from her time at Florida State, she’s had plenty of experience with big upsets, watching Leonard Hamilton’s Seminoles make their presence known alongside her youngest son, Josh, who’s now an FSU alum.

“He and I in particular have reminisced about all the fun times and things that he got to do, we got to do, while at Florida State with probably the biggest one we would share is that Coach Hamilton let me bring him on the charter when we went to Duke,” she recalled.

And while she had a front row seat for history at Cameron Indoor in 2007 for the Noles’ win at Durham, it was a 2006 game at the Tucker Center that, in hindsight, was far more fateful: The night she saw her now hoops coach Wes Miller in action.

“He had an unbelievable game, hit three point shots and I’m sure Leonard’s probably on the bench going ‘Who is this guy, he probably wasn’t even in our scouting report?’”

So Saturday, there will be a house divided, but with a strong foundation for Record, built on strong memories and stronger friendships.
