ELDORADO, Ga. (WALB) - The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is investigating after two people, including a deputy, were injured in an officer-involved shooting in Tift County.

According to a post on Twitter by the GBI, a deputy and a man were both shot and are in serious condition.

The GBI said Tift County deputies responded to a 911 call about a disturbance by two men in an Eldorado neighborhood. In a press release, the GBI said the men were reportedly knocking on multiple doors.

The deputies found the men and tried to identify them, the release states. The GBI reported that during the incident, one of the men fired shots, striking a deputy multiple times and another deputy fired back, hitting the man.

According to the Twitter post, the second man in the incident has been taken into custody.

The incident happened Friday morning in Eldorado, which is between Tifton and Lenox.

The press release states that the GBI will continue to conduct an independent investigation. Once the investigation is complete, it will be submitted to the Tift County District Attorney’s Office for review.

This is a developing story, and WALB has a reporter at the scene. We will provide more information as more details come in.
