TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) - Florida State dropped its second game in the Oxford Regional to Ole Miss Saturday night. The Seminoles overcame a first-inning two-run deficit with a pair of homers in the fifth inning by Isaiah Perry and Logan Lacey to take a 3-2 lead.

The Seminoles couldn’t hold on though, as a monumental throwing error with two outs in the top of the seventh by Nander De Sedas allowed two runs to score and give Ole Miss a 4-3 lead, which they wouldn’t relinquish.

Florida State now turns its attention back to Southern Miss, the team it beat in its first game of the Oxford Regional on Friday. The Seminoles won that one 5-2 behind three homers and six quality innings from its ace, Parker Messick.

It’s win or go home for both teams this time. The Seminoles will turn to their veteran right-hander Conor Grady on the mound. Grady enters Sunday 9-2 with a 3.90 ERA, along with 93 strikeouts to just 18 walks across 67 innings. He’ll match up against Southern Miss lefty Drew Boyd, who is 4-2 with a 3.76 ERA, 55 strikeouts and just seven walks across 55 innings.

Below will be a running a live blog of today’s game. We’ll have score updates, analysis, stray observations and thoughts. FINAL: Southern Miss 7, FSU 4

The Seminoles are retired in order in the bottom of the 9th. Conor Grady was very solid but gave up two big homers. Another critical defensive error costs the ‘Noles. Their season comes to an end with a 31-24 record.

Mid 9th: Southern Miss 7, FSU 4

Southern Miss gets another run on an RBI single to left. Golden Eagles lead by three heading into the bottom of the ninth.

End 8th: Southern Miss 6, FSU 4

Davis Hare draws a one-out walk after an eight-pitch at-bat. Och finally comes out of the game after throwing a season-high 86 pitches. He allowed just one hit and struck out 11 batters. Hurston Waldrep comes in to relieve him.

De Sedas lines out and Greene strikes out to end the inning. The Seminoles are down to three outs.

Mid 8th: Southern Miss 6, FSU 4

Reed Trimble leads off the inning with a bloop single to center field and Charlie Fischer walks to put runners on first and second with no outs. Florida State makes another pitching change and will bring Jack Anderson into the game.

Anderson induces a 5-4 double play against his first batter. USM has runners on the corners with one out.

The next batter, Rece Ewing hits a soft grounder through the right side to score the runner from third and give USM the lead. The next batter grounds one up the middle off of Anderson, who loses the ball for a second and then throws it away to score another run. Florida State sending Jonah Scolaro in to replace Anderson.

Scolaro hits a batter to load the bases with two outs and another pitching change coming. Brandon Walker comes in for Scolaro. Walker gets a flyout and gets out of the jam.

End 7th: FSU 4, Southern Miss 4

Mat Nelson lines a two-out double down the left-field line for FSU’s first hit of the day against Och, but Robby Martin grounds out to strand the runner in scoring position. Still tied a 4-4 heading into the eighth.

Middle 7th: FSU 4, Southern Miss 4

Conor Grady comes back out to the mound to start the seventh inning with only 85 pitches under his belt and it backfires. McGillis homers off Grady for the second time today with one out to tie the game at 4-4.

FSU makes its first pitching change of the day with Hunter Perdue called in to relieve Grady.

Perdue gets out of the inning with a strikeout and groundout. We’re locked at 4-4 heading into the bottom of the seventh.

End 6th: FSU 4, Southern Miss 3

Och strikes out the side and now has a career-high nine strikeouts through 3.1 innings.

Middle 6th: FSU 4, Southern Miss 3

Grady gets his fourth 1-2-3 inning of the day. He has six strikeouts and has thrown just 85 pitches through six innings. It will be interesting to see if he comes back out for the seventh in a one-run ballgame.

End 5th: FSU 4, Southern Miss 3

Mat Nelson walks to lead off the inning, but nothing doing for the Seminoles as Och retires the next three hitters. Och has six strikeouts through 2.1 innings.

Middle 5th: FSU 4, Southern Miss 3

Southern Miss cuts the lead to one after a leadoff single and two-run homer by Blake Johnson. Grady hung an 0-2 breaking ball over the middle of the plate and Johnson made him pay.

Grady bounced back to retire the next three hitters.

End 4th: FSU 4, Southern Miss 1

Tyler Martin gets hit by a pitch with two outs, but Och strikes out the side to end the fourth inning.

Middle 4th: FSU 4, Southern Miss 1

Another 1-2-3 inning for Grady, his third of the day. He gets a strikeout and two groundouts and throws only 12 pitches in the inning. Lacey made a great play for the second out, charging in on a slow roller and making a nice running throw across the diamond.

End 3rd: FSU 4, Southern Miss 1

The Seminoles get the run back as Logan Lacey hits his third homer in as many games on a hanging 1-2 breaking ball. Florida State retakes the lead. That’s also Lacey’s 7th homer in his last 13 games.

Mat Nelson followed up the homer with a single up the middle. Boyd then balked to advance Nelson to second, and Robby Martin brought him up with a single up the middle. That’s Martin’s second RBI of the day. Martin advanced to second on a wild pitch, and Davis Hare brought him home with an RBI single to left. That’s the fourth hit of the inning for the Seminoles.

Southern Miss then makes a pitching change. USM is going with LHP Ryan Och, who has a 1.47 ERA in 30.2 IP this season. He strikes out De Sedas to end the inning.

Middle 3rd: FSU 1, Southern Miss 1

Will McGillis leads off the top of the third inning with a double off the wall in left field. That was the first USM baserunner Grady has allowed today.

After a strikeout, Dustin Dickerson hits an infield single to the right side off the end of the bat to put runners on the corners with one out and the top of the order due up. Grady then walked the next batter to load the bases.

Grady then induced a soft grounder to second on Reed Trimble, but the Seminoles can turn the double play in time. A run scores to tie the game at 1-1. Grady gets his second strikeout to strand two runners and end the inning.

End 2nd: FSU 1, Southern Miss 0

Nothing doing for the Seminoles in the bottom of the second, as they go down in order. They still lead 1-0 through two innings.

Middle 2nd: FSU 1, Southern Miss 0

Another 1-2-3 inning for Grady, who has thrown just 20 pitches through two innings. He collected his first strikeout of the afternoon for the first out of the inning. Nander De Sedas, who made the game-changing error against Ole Miss Saturday, made a great play up the middle for the second out of the inning.

End 1st: FSU 1, Southern Miss 0

Tyler Martin starts the bottom of the first with a leadoff infield single. It was a hard-hit grounder that kicked off the foot of Boyd, who had no time to make a throw to first after he recovered it.

Martin then stole second on a wild pitch with two outs, and Robby Martin brought him home with a two-out single to right. That was the first run the Seminoles have scored this weekend that didn’t come on a home run.

Middle 1st: FSU 0, Southern Miss 0

Quick 1-2-3 first inning for Grady, as he needs only eight pitches to retire the side. It was a good, clean start for the Seminoles’ defense, which committed two errors in the first inning of each of their previous two games.

That’s the first scoreless first inning of the tournament for Florida State.
