TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) - While the ‘Nole nation is cheering on their team, Lonni Alameda’s squad is also inspiring a lot of young ladies who one day hope to play on the game’s biggest stage.

FSU Softball’s run during this Women’s College World Series has not only inspired FSU fans across the country, but youth softball players here in the Capital City.

“When they went to the losers’ bracket, I really didn’t think they would make it this far, but now it’s like they’re the last two teams so I’m excited,” said Rickard High School softball player Misha Bennett.

The FSU Softball team is bringing a lot of joy to the community with their improbable run and no-quit attitude.

“I like their bonding and how they’ve lost it, but they didn’t down themselves, they stayed up top,” said Leon High School softball player Jordae Nance.

The team’s resilience with their backs against the wall is a beaming a light of hope for the youth who look up to them.

“These younger girls imitate what they see those girls do,” said President at Tallahassee Fast Pitch Softball Association Morriya Smith. “I mean, Florida State is a big school, has a great program.”

The young ladies are taking on characteristics they see their idols portray.

“They’re having fun, they’re giving 110%, they’re not giving up,” said Smith. “So these are all not just softball lessons, but life lessons that these girls are learning so they can be able to take forth in their future.”

It’s a future that hopefully lands them in the FSU Softball program.

“It’s like, I want to go to FSU so bad, and so just seen them make it this far, I can’t wait until I, like, hopefully be on the team with them, and go through the same thing they are going through,” added Thomas.

Young ladies like Thomas say seeing the ‘Noles win the championship would mean the world to them:

“It would be amazing, because I’ve loved them so much, because they’re my inspiration to play softball.”

Wednesday, the young softball players cheered for the ‘Noles until the final out. The team has already inspired the next generation of softball players to take their place.
