‘I’m just happy I made it’: Griffin Heights shooting survivor celebrates graduation from Godby HS
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) - There was a huge standing ovation for Nas’zir Chandler who, just a week ago, didn’t think he would be able to cross the stage at graduation Thursday night.
The 18-year-old is a survivor of multiple gunshot wounds from an August 2020 shooting and has been fighting to have this moment to graduate with his class.
When asked what the moment felt like to cross the stage, Chandler said, “Magical.”
“I’m just happy I made it. It feels really good though,” said Chandler. “I’m kind of tired now, but it feels real good to make it and hear everybody cheering for me and congratulating me and stuff. It feels good.”
For anyone else searching for strength in dark moments, Chandler says to keep pushing forward because if he can do it, so can you.
