TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) - Most folks say John Thrasher is a pretty humble man, so Wednesday’s celebration of his legacy at Florida State University may not have been his first choice, but he seemed incredibly grateful for the chance to lead the school since 2014.

The FSU Board of Trustees hosted the ceremony, and Board Chair Ed Burr did not skimp on the praise. He called Thrasher’s tenure transformative for the university

A former student body president, the provost. and community leaders all echoed those sentiments, but when it came time for President Thrasher to speak, he made sure to credit his support for all the success.

“Nobody does it unless you have a committed, loyal, believing staff that cares about this university,” Thrasher said. “And I’ve been blessed to have one and I thank each and every one of you for everything that you have done for this university.”

President Thrasher made sure to thank his wife, Jean, for her steadfast commitment to the first lady role and asked the FSU community to give incoming president Richard Mccullough an open-armed welcome like he received seven years ago.

President Thrasher’s last day on the job is in mid-August.
