TPD launches #TweetAlongTPD, brings public along nightly routine
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) - The Tallahassee Police Department is making their own version of “Live PD” using a new social media strategy to bring the public along on their nightly routine.
And, like the show, it’s proving to be a hit with civilians.
TPD told WCTV’s Katie Kaplan that they saw how people responded when the force was on “Live PD,” and while they don’t know if that is something they will ever do again, this is way a to keep the connection with the community.
Tuesday, TPD’s Twitter followers got to experience a night in the life of Officer Hill, the focus of #TweetAlongTPD.
“People like to see that type of stuff,” said TPD Public Information Officer Alicia Turner.
For six hours, TPD’s Twitter followers got to tag along for all the action.
“When you talk about the community really understanding what it is our officers do, one of the best ways to do that is to have them along for the ride,” explained Turner.
Followers were first to the scene of an alleged assault, then an intoxicated person on a bus, documenting the interactions with other officers, and even incorporating a little humor along the way.
TPD said this was also an effort to be more transparent with the community, and now that they’ve seen the response, they are hoping it is something they can do on a monthly basis
