Tallahassee couple preparing to board cruise setting sail out of Florida
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) - Celebrity Cruise Line will sail its first ship out of Fort Lauderdale at the end of June, and a Tallahassee couple is preparing to board it.
For over 30 years, Carol and Phil Swartz have enjoyed traveling, and, especially cruises. The Adventures in Travel agency owners have boarded hundreds of boats and rave about the entertainment, the experiences and the food on the ships.
Phil said when COVID-19 hit, and he and his wife could not travel anymore and that staying at home really took its toll.
“For us to all of a sudden just stop, and, you know, do nothing for this whole period, we’re looking forward to getting back out there,” Phil said.
In preparation for their first cruise since the pandemic began, the couple shared that safety precautions have been ramped up on cruise lines. Different cruise lines have different protocols.
Phil said they received a long list of precautions that the cruise line will be taking to ensure travelers safety, including more cleaning. Carol said she has seen the way sanitation was implemented even before the pandemic, so she has no concerns when it comes to the cleanliness of the boat for their trip.
This particular cruise will be for fully vaccinated travelers only, and Phil said the health paperwork that must be filled out before boat sets sail has also gotten more detailed.
Although the couple is excited to get back to their own love for travel, they say they’re also taking this trip as an example to clients and other travelers still straddling the fence of safety.
“We want to be able to give them a clear picture of here is what to expect when you go on a cruise ship, or to a resort in Mexico or you know a tour of the great parks if the west or something,” said Phil.
