TAYLOR COUNTY, Fla. (WCTV) - The Florida Highway Patrol says a chase led to a fatal crash on US Highway 19 in Taylor County. Troopers say the crash happened around 5:40 p.m. Sunday.

An SUV traveling south on the highway was actively fleeing from FHP troopers, while a truck was traveling north on the road. The SUV crossed the grass median and the front of the vehicle crashed into the front of the truck, FHP’s press release says.

After the crash, the SUV was disabled in the median and the truck was overturned.

FHP’s release says the driver of the SUV, a 28-year-old man from Melbourne, Florida, died in the crash. The 64-year-old Hudson man driving the truck suffered serious injuries, while a 5-year-old boy riding in the truck had minor injuries from the crash.

“This crash caused the northbound lanes of US Highway 19 to be shut down for an extended period,” the release says.

The Taylor County sheriff’s office, fire rescue and EMS teams all helped FHP at the scene of the crash.
