Tifton PD, GBI investigating after 16-year-old shot to death
TIFTON, Ga. (WALB) - A homicide investigation is underway after a 16-year-old was found shot to death in Tifton, according to the Tifton Police Department (TPD).
On Friday, shortly before 1 a.m., police responded to the 700 block of Timmons Drive.
Police found Jamarion Scott with multiple gunshot wounds and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
TPD has requested the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s (GBI) assistance with the investigation.
Scott’s body was taken to the GBI Crime Lab for an autopsy.
“It’s sad to see people get you know, killed and they really need to put the guns down and stop the violence because we done had three homicides over here so far. And this one right here makes the third,” said Tyara Williams, a Tifton resident.
Many people told WALB News 10 Scott was known by his nickname, J.D.
His death has them even more concerned about violent crime.
“Well, this area has been known for...killings and a lot of like absurd activities, stuff that doesn’t normally go on other places of Tifton. Well, it goes on here but J.D. was really nice. He was a sweet boy,” said Brittany Deberry, another Tifton resident.
Neighbors said this is the third murder of a young person, and something has got to give.
“The community can come together to make a change to stop the violence,” said Williams.
Anyone with information is asked to call the GBI Tip Line (1-800) 597-8477 or the Tifton Police Department (229) 391-3991.
