MARION COUNTY, Fla. (WCTV) - An Ocala man died Monday morning after he was hit by a pickup while driving a mini-bike.

Florida Highway Patrol says the 27-year-old was driving an unregistered mini-bike around 6:40 a.m. on northeast 42nd Street.

Troopers say the man was not wearing a helmet, and the mini-bike did not have proper lights, even though it was still dark.

The pickup hit the mini-bike head-on, according to FHP.  The mini-bike driver was pronounced dead on the scene.

FHP said the suspect driver fled the scene but was later tracked down and arrested for leaving the scene of a crash involving a death.

The pickup driver was booked into Marion County Jail.
