TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) - The Florida Highway Patrol says a Marianna man was killed and two others were seriously injured in a Thursday night crash on State Road 71 in Jackson County.

Troopers say a car was traveling south on State Road 71, near Bryan Street, around 9:30 p.m. Thursday. The car then went into the northbound lane of travel to pass an SUV, but it collided head-on with a sedan, the crash report states.

The sedan then traveled to the east shoulder of SR 71, where it came to a stop. After the initial impact, the front of the SUV crashed into the back of the car trying to pass it, FHP says.

The SUV traveled off the roadway on the east shoulder before it overturned and stopped in a field east of SR 71.

The car that attempted the pass came to a final rest in the middle of the road.

FHP’s crash report says the driver of the sedan, a 53-year-old Marianna man, died from the crash. The 49-year-old Cottondale man driving the SUV and the 30-year-old Marianna man in the car that tried to make the pass both suffered serious injuries, FHP says.
