TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) - A big boost came to WCTV’s peanut butter and jelly drive Thursday as a sorority delivered a big check right to Second Harvest’s door.

We were there when Delta Sigma Theta’s Tallahassee Alumnae Chapter helped to jump-start this drive and arrived with a $2,000 check for PBJ PLZ!

The money will go to buy peanut butter and jelly and other kid-friendly foods for hungry children in our community and with Second Harvest’s bulk buying power, this will make thousands of sandwiches.

“No child should go hungry, especially not in our community when we have so many organizations like ours that are here to help,” fundraising committee chair Kara Palmer Smith says.

“When students know that people care about them then they want to do more,” chapter president Terracca Jones says. “Things like this program are giving those children the opportunity to be successful.”

The sorority doubled its donation from last year’s. They say they hope it motivates other organizations to give.

The women got a quick tour of the food bank’s warehouse after handing over that check.
