FRANKLIN COUNTY, Fla. (WCTV) - A couple from Maryland vacationing on St. George Island had quite the view as they strolled along the beach Thursday morning.

Brian Donohue and his wife Suzanne noticed a couple of guys with a stick poking at something in the surf around 9:40 a.m. on April 21. To their surprise, it turned out to be an alligator on the beach!

Donohue says he and his wife spotted the gator nearby Bob Sikes Cut, which separates St. George Island from Little St. George Island.

The couple followed the gator for about 20 minutes. Donohue says the waves were rough that morning, so the gator ended up back in the water and then back onshore several times.

Below, you’ll find the pictures Donohue shared with our newsroom:

Donohue says this is the second time his family has vacationed on St. George. The couple brought their two youngest kids to the island too, but they weren’t with them on the beach at the time of the gator sighting.
