GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCTV) -- The Florida Highway Patrol says five people have been taken to the hospital after a fiery crash in Gainesville.

FHP says the crash happened Thursday at 5:30 a.m. near the intersection of SE 15th Street and SE 14th Terrace.

According to the FHP report, a Toyota Camry was traveling southbound on SE 15th Street when, for unknown reasons, the driver travelled off of the roadway. The Camry then struck a tree caught fire.

The driver, Larry Gaines, 16, and one of the passengers, Christopher Morten, 21, were taken to the hospital with critical injuries.

The other three passengers in the car, Keith Garrison, 17, Daniel Rivera, 16, and David Peoples, 17, were taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

The intersection was shut down for about 3 hours as crews investigated and cleared the scene.

During the investigation, it was discovered that the Camry had been reported stolen out of Gainesville.

FHP says both investigations are ongoing and charges are pending.
