June 30, 2016
VALDOSTA, Ga. (WCTV) -- Seven employees of seven different Lowndes County stores have been arrested after authorities say they sold alcohol to minors.
The Lowndes County Sheriff's Office says that deputies visited 40 stores that sold alcohol. Of the 40 locations, investigators say they found employees selling alcohol to minors at seven stores.
In all, seven people were arrested as part of the operation.
Nilesh Pramodbha Patel, 31, of Lake Park, Mitulkumar Mahendrabhai Patel, 31, of Valdosta, Mayur Kumar Kiritbhai Patel, 22, of Valdosta, Ketankumar Jayantibhai Patel, 31, of Lake Park, Amber Nicole Griner, 19, of Hahira, Yogeshbhai Vasantbhai Mehta, 55, of Valdosta, and Mohammad Aran Warraich, 50, of Valdosta were all arrested and charged with furnishing alcohol to a person under 21.
LCSO says each of the employees arrested turned themselves into the Lowndes County Jail on Wednesday and has since been released on bond.
"Although we are encouraged that only seven of the businesses sold to a minor, we will continue to conduct these operations at random intervals," Sheriff Chris Prine said.
The sheriff's office says the operation was conducted after it had received several complaints of high school aged children buying alcohol.
