Jackson County teen dies after being found in pond

MARIANNA, Fla. (WCTV) -- The Jackson County Sheriff's Office says a teen has died after being found unresponsive in Merrits Mill Pond.

According to JCSO, an adult found the teen in the pond and was performing CPR as first responders arrived Saturday.

The teen was transported to Jackson hospital by EMS and later airlifted to Bay Medical Center. At the time, the teen had minimal vital signs.

Authorities say the Teen later died around 6:40 p.m. Saturday at the medical center. They say the death appears to be accidental and no charges are pending at this time.

The Medical Examiner's office is currently conducting an autopsy and an investigation into the teen's death is still underway by investigators.
