BROOKS COUNTY, Ga. (WCTV) -- We now know the identity of a man killed in a crash in Brooks County on Lawson Mill Pond Road.
Officials say the single-vehicle crash occurred around 3:25 p.m. on Wednesday near the Brooks-Lowndes County line.
The Georgia State Patrol says a red 2002 Ford Explorer was traveling west on Lawson Mill Pond Road when it traveled off the north shoulder of the roadway. The driver overcorrected, causing the vehicle to spin and travel off of the south shoulder and down an embankment. The vehicle overturned onto its passenger side and struck a tree before falling back to its tires.
The driver, 18-year-old Devontae Deshawn Head, of Quitman, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
GSP says Head was wearing a seatbelt but the vehicle's airbags did not deploy.
Troopers do not suspect drugs or alcohol to be a contributing factor in the crash.
