TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) -- Tallahassee Police have released a more detailed summary of Friday night's officer involved shooting.

Around 7:00 p.m., officers found what is being called a stolen vehicle on Capital Circle NW. Officers tried to pull the vehicle over, but the suspect took off from the traffic stop. After a short time, TPD says their officers dropped back and let The Leon County Sheriff's Office helicopter track the suspect.

As the helicopter was tracking the vehicle, the officers onboard observed the suspect try and carjack another vehicle on Mountbatten Road near Jim Lee Road.

Because of department policy, officers with TPD tried to stop the suspect again because of the carjacking attempt. A short time later on Blairstone Road, the suspect lost control and crashed.

Police say the suspect took off on foot from the crash scene and allegedly tried to carjack another vehicle. Officers quickly caught up to the suspect and tried to arrest him, but he "violently resisted." TPD says that an officer fired their handgun at this time, and struck the suspect. TPD says the man, now identified as Mychael Johnson, 31 died at the scene from his injuries.

TPD says officers are currently being interviewed and evidence is being examined.
