THOMAS COUNTY, Ga. (WCTV) -- Georgia State Patrol is investigating back-to-back accidents that happened on U.S. Highway 19, Tuesday morning.
Investigating Trooper Gray Shiver says the first accident involved a semi driver and a silver car carrying a family of five.
According to witnesses, the semi driver, Derrick Stinson, attempted to change into the same lane as the vehicle, which caused Timothy Page, Angela Barber, and three young kids to run off the road and overturn in the ditch.
The next accident happened as the family was trying to exit their car to safety.
Trooper Shiver says a black charger was struck by debris from the accident when it also left the same shoulder of road.
The charger driven by Jamilah Taylor crashed into the wrecked car, and pinned Barber between the two vehicles.
Everyone involved in the multiple-car wreck were checked out by EMS. Several were taken away by ambulance for minor injuries.
GSP says charges are still pending at this time.
At this time, both drivers of the semi and silver car have been charged.
Stinson is currently charged with failing to yield before changing lanes.
Page is facing two charges for the two kids that were not wearing child restraints at the time of the accident.
The family's puppy was also involved in the accident and suffered minor head injury. It was taken to Thomasville Animal Hospital to be treated.
