CAIRO, Ga. (WCTV) -- Monday, the Cairo community came together in a big way to celebrate Dr. King.

Starting at 11 a.m., city streets were packed with floats honoring his legacy. Local families showed up in support and lined streets to take part in the celebration.

The parade a cherished tradition that's put on every year. This year's theme was 'We Are Stronger Together.'

"They put it on every year and it is beautiful. People come out and show great support. We just love to see all the people in the community and love celebrating the life of Dr. King," said Dorothy Wilson, a resident attending the parade.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Collaborative Group puts on the community parade. Members say it's meant to unify the community and keep Dr. King's dream alive.

Donations from generous businesses and citizens also help fund two scholarships for Cairo High School seniors.
