LAFAYETTE COUNTY, Fla. (WCTV) – A Mayo man is accused of stealing tens of thousands of dollars in an identity theft scheme and investigators believe there could be more victims.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement arrested 30-year-old Tavaress Thomas.

Investigators say Thomas was acting as a caretaker for the victims’ son, when he gained access to their account and used personal information to obtain bank loans.

FDLE believe he stole more than $61,000.

This is not Thomas’ first time accused of financial crimes. He’s also accused of defrauding several Tallahassee businesses of more than $186,000.

Investigators are encouraging others who knows of suspicious activity by Thomas to come forward and contact FDLE.

Thomas is in the Lafayette County jail.
