JACKSON CO., Fla. (WCTV) -- A professional diver in the Big Bend was put on call, ready to go to Thailand if help was needed.
Edd Sorenson has completed more than 7,000 dives in his career and has done a number of rescues in the area in water-filled caves. He says the more than two-mile journey to safety in Thailand was extremely tricky to complete.
"It was a very tough operation. They had zero visibility at the beginning, they had extremely high flow. They had kids that weren't even swimmers let alone scuba divers and let alone cave divers," said Sorenson.
He says it is difficult to teach someone diving instructions in such a short amount of time, and says the the divers had little margin for error in getting the children out.
