TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) -- The Judicial Nominating Commission announced Tuesday it is now seeking applicants for a new circuit judge in the Second Circuit.

Circuit Judge Charles Francis will be retiring in March 2018 after 19 years on the bench.

Francis served as chief judge for 12 years. That's the longest tenure for a chief judge in the Second Circuit history, Court Administrator Grant Slayden said. Slayden says Francis is best known for pushing for better funding for state courts as well as pushing to rebuild the courthouse annex on Thomasville Road.

The JNC says qualified candidates must apply for the circuit judge's job by Wednesday, December 27. Interviews will be held in January 2018.
