TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) -- The Tallahassee Police Department is warning citizens about a newer scam seen on Craigslist that involves the sale of used cars.

Police say the scam typically:

  • Lists a price that is way too low
  • Has a title with a missing space before the year, causing the words to run together with the year (Example: LowMiles2009Nissan Murano LE GoodShape & Flawless White)
  • There is no location given in the listing
  • There is only one picture of the vehicle
  • There is a very short description of the vehicle under the picture, typically one or two lines
  • Police are reminding citizens never to pay for a vehicle using gift cards or MoneyGrams, and to keep in mind that if something appears too good to be true, it probably is.

If you see a listing that you believe is a scam, please call Tallahassee Police at (850) 891-4200.
