VALDOSTA, Ga. (WCTV) -- Authorities in south Georgia say a man has been arrested following a standoff with police.
The Lowndes County Sheriff's Office responded a home in the 4200 block of Hampton Drive Thursday morning where a man reportedly barricaded himself inside the residence.
According to Deputies, the man was inside of the home with his two small children and that he had sent text messages threatening to kill himself.
Deputies say he had a long gun that they believe is a rifle in his possession.
LCSO says that while negotiating with officials, he came out of the house, let the kids go, and let deputies take him into custody and to South Georgia Medical Center for evaluation.
Homes nearby in the neighborhood north of Valdosta off of Bemiss Road were evacuated during the standoff, authorities say.
Officials say the incident is under investigation and they will determine what charges are appropriate.
