SUWANNEE CO., Fla. (WCTV) -- Deputies say rumors circulating on social media that a gun was confiscated at Suwannee High School Tuesday afternoon are not true.
The Suwannee County Sheriff's Office said in a Facebook post that no weapon or gun was confiscated, but other threat messages began to emerge as the rumor spread on social media.
SCSO and the Suwannee County School District say they are following up on each report of a potential threat, but no credible threats have been identified.
The sheriff's office says it made the decision to place additional deputies on school campuses after students and parents expressed concern over the rumor of a gun on school grounds.
SCSO says if you have any questions regarding the safety of students or any information regarding threats of violence at schools, please call 386-362-2222. You may remain anonymous.
