MOODY A.F.B., Ga. (WCTV) -- Monday, Moody Air Force Base continues investigating the death of a 17-year-old boy. He was found unresponsive at the outdoor base pool Sunday around 7 p.m.

Officials say the Moody Air Force Base family is deeply saddened by the tragedy. The teen's death comes as a shock to military families and families just outside the base's gates.

"It's a sad and tragic situation," said Derrick Powell, owner of Blendz Barber Shop.

For the last eight years, Derrick's barber shop has catered to military families. He says the young boy's death was heartbreaking to hear.

"Being a barber, I deal with a lot of kids and over the years I get to watch them grow up. It's really tragic to know that a family has lost their 17-year-old son," said Powell.

Moody A.F.B. says the Office of Special Investigations is looking into the cause of death.

"When a tragedy like this happens, your thoughts instantly go to the family and those that were there at the scene last night taking care of them as best as we can," says Jessica Colby with Moody's Public Affairs.

Moody says the teen was brought on base as a guest though the Trusted Travelers Program and that he had permission to be inside the facility after normal pool hours.

Moody says the outdoor pool will remain closed until further notice.
