TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) -- There is lots of excitement as Homecoming week arrives at FAMU, and that's not the only thing Rattler nation has to celebrate.
The university was just ranked the number one public HBCU in the nation. The school has a lot to celebrate this week already, but this news gives the whole school another reason to be proud of being a Rattler.
The vote was cast by other HBCU’s, so other schools nominated and voted for FAMU to receive this recognition. The results were calculated using data from the last four years.
It shows FAMU offers the best student retention rates, average student living costs, and the average starting salary upon graduation.
Interim President Dr. Larry Robinson says this achievement is right up there with another recent ranking, which named FAMU the number two best value college in Florida.
"Being the student body vice president, I get to lead this university and just to know that collectively, we all did it together to create the number one HBCU is a really great feeling," says FAMU Student Body Vice President, Paris Ellis.
Ellis says this comes at the perfect time during homecoming week, giving alumni another reason to be proud of being from FAMU. The Wall Street Journal ranked 1,061 institutions.
