TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) -- Florida A&M University was presented with a $15,000 check to establish a scholarship fund in the name of Adrian Freeman, a FAMU alum who passed away in November.

The scholarship was awarded on stage this past weekend at the 2019 Jazz in the Gardens Music Festival in Miami Gardens.

“He was an amazing man with an amazing spirit,” said Miami Gardens Mayor Oliver Gilbert III, an alum of FAMU. “For years he would sit in the bay and take pictures of this festival and a lot of you. He didn’t just take pictures of people on stage. He took pictures of people enjoying themselves.”

Following the presentation, Mayor Gilbert announced the FAMU football team will play a Labor Day game in 2020 in Miami Gardens.
