TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) -- A Florida A&M University student is facing charges after a loaded gun was found inside his backpack in a campus dorm room.
Ronald Reid, 24, was arrested Wednesday for possession of a weapon on school property.
According to arrest documents, FAMU Police responded to the Gibbs Hall dormitory just before 4:30 p.m. Wednesday in reference to the smell of cannabis coming from one of the rooms.
Police responded to the room in question and met with the occupant, student Ronald Reid.
During a health and welfare check of the the room, police found a backpack with a loaded 9mm semi-automatic pistol inside. Police say Reid admitted that the gun was his and that he has purchased it back home in Miami.
Reid was arrested and booked into the Leon County Detention Facility. The gun was seized and placed into evidence.
Reid is free on bond but has been ordered not to return to the FAMU campus.
